Agree on point 3. disaster waiting to happen. IMO, priority 1 for this team should be to add a reliable Dman with that cap space.

Wondering if maybe Tre is looking to unload Stone and playing him so any interested parties can see him.

That is the only thing that makes any sense to me.

Disagree priority should be spending that cap on a top 6 forward. Kylington is more than adequate, Stone should only be used sparingly. Valimaki may be back adding a depth d at the td could be an option.

What drives me nuts about JG can be seen at 28 seconds in the link below (the complete overtime period against Minny).

https://streamable.com/l08oe

At the 28 second mark, rather than even try and physically engage Stahl, JG goes for a half assed poke check.

Stahl is not fast. If JG really wanted that puck he could have had it. Flames end up losing possession then Gio ends up getting a penalty. It sucks to see JG play this way in overtime. This is why I advocate to trade him.

I know if we trade JG we will not get the same amount of talent back. But if your talent is not willing to take a hit to make a play you will not win in the playoffs.

Indeed Rittich seems to need some (50:50) rest.

Staal has 7 inches and 50 pounds on Gaudreau. Asking him to physically engage with Staal is ridiculous. If there's even a chance Gaudreau could get plastered into the boards, he has to avoid that contact otherwise he's never going to play more than 50 games a year.

Exactly why if we don't have playoff success this year he is likely gone.

I totally agree I watch that and Gaudreau could have easily angled stahl Off and at the vary least got more I need his way. problem is is he doesn’t engage himself with anybody physically. to me that is a huge flaw in a player in the NHL. this isn’t house no hit hockey. it’s a physical game, Johnny doesn’t need to go in there and pound people physically but he at least hast to lean on somebody and throw one or two body Checks every so often, when he’s in a position to hit somebody he should hit him. be a somewhat physical. They’re small guys up and down this NHL and a lot of them are not physical but they do engage somewhat ,gaudreau just doesn’t engage it’s frustrating to watch and it costs us at times And don’t kid yourself his teammates know it t,.

Yeah and JG can skate circles around Stahl and should have been able to get to that puck. By your logic JG should never go anywhere near another player because they are all bigger than him. Are you his dad?

JG is a star player, and a small one at that, hes going to have to figure this stuff out if he wants to play in the best league in the world. He would have a target on his back regardless of his size, and turning over pucks or playing out of position to avoid a check because of his size is not going to go over well with anyone.

That’s never going to happen. Johnny is 150 lbs, he’s never played like that throughout his career and expecting him to start now is unrealistic. He’s a elite talent that brings a lot of other stuff to the team. If he was top 10 in scoring like last year all you guys would be happy, but because he’s not it’s easy to pick out his faults. Remember he was a 4th round pick, it was because of his stature not his heart.

Have we traded for Toffoli yet?

Any small player does the same thing in that situation. When you're 50 pounds smaller than everyone else, you're number one priority is not to get crushed into the boards because it's not going to go well for you. Staal was angling into the boards. Maybe Gaudreau could scoot by him, maybe he can't. If Staal takes him out there, it's bad news. Why take the risk on a nothing play?

Look at the extreme example. The best player ever to play the game was never going to take a hit to make a play. Gretzky's said as much that his number one priority was to not get hit. When you're that good, you just wait for the next chance.
